Grimbsy take all 3 points as Wimbledons 100% home record is terminated
Many where optimistic towards this weeks fixture against Grimsby after the triumph over Milton Keynes a week ago. A full week of training could help the Dons get back up to full fitness and back up the table.
In previous fixtures against Grimsby, there hasn’t been many goals to show any significance in the fixture. It’s ended 0-0 in the previous 2 games the teams had played eachother. So this game could be another one of those.
It’s fair to note that Wimbledon before this game have had an 100% win home record this season whilst Grimsby have won 4 away games in a row so it will be interesting to see how this game pans out. Wimbledon make no changes from their win over bitter rivals MK. The first half carried out a disallowed goal for Wimbledon as a ball was swung into the box where the goalkeeper claimed the ball but was bodied off the ball by Bugiel to which Steven’s headed into an empty net. However the referee had decided to give Grimsby a freekick for the apparent foul on the goalkeeper which seemed to be quite harsh on Wimbledon as it did look soft.
After a quiet 30 minutes, except from Steven’s disallowed goal, the ball had found the feet of Grimbsy’s Green who put in a delicious ball from the inside of his boot to which it seemed as if Owen Goodman was coming to claim but confusingly decided not to which led Grimsby’s captain and front man Danny Rose to head home to give the visitors the lead inside half an hour. Grimbsy where unlucky not to be 2 up as Maycock had superbly tracked back to hunt down his man to stop him from going 1 on 1 with Goodman.
The second half saw a lot more energy from Wimbledon as they continued to pepper the Grimsby goal but the Grimsby goalkeeper could not be denied. The referee had made some frustrating decisions to which ultimately slowed the game down and allowed Grimsby to see the game out.
Wimbledon unfortunately couldn’t seem to find any finishing touches as Grimsby defended extremely well.
Full time: Wimbledon 0-1 Grimsby
Wimbledons 100% home record comes to an end as Grimsby make it 5 away wins in a row as they move up into the playoff places. Wimbledon still have 3 games in hand but would most likely need to win those games in order to creep up into the playoffs
