DONS TRIUMPH OVER RIVALS…. AGAIN

Where do I start? Just a phenomenal performance today. Everyone on that pitch in a blue and yellow shirt, the true colours of Wimbledon, were absolutely outstanding, not a foot wrong.

Our form coming into this match, 6 wins and 1 loss whilst the franchise have had a shocking start to the season with only 2 wins and 5 losses in all competitions. I was feeling confident especially after what happened last time… I wanted it to happen all over again today. The lineup wasn’t too surprising, possibly Tilley coming in for Furlong, but I understand he had just come back from international duty, also Ryan Johnson seems to be out for a few weeks with the injury he picked up against Fleetwood. And for their lineup… I couldn’t care less.

We started the game very well, putting intense pressure whenever they had the ball but also keeping hold of the ball well, playing it into good areas of which we could put balls into the box. For the indirect freekick, I couldn’t actually see what had happened to lead up to that point. (To be completely honest I thought the referee had given us a penalty from where I was sitting!) But this was an unbelievable chance to put us 1-0 up and Hippolyte made no mistake in doing so, which sees his first goal in dons colours come as one to remember!

A good first half put us looking extremely comfortable going into the second half. However as expected, franchise controlled the ball most of the half trying to knock on Wimbledons door. However they were denied multiple times by a rock solid Wimbledon defense. Alex Gilbey took out Jake Reeves forcing him to come off, which he was replaced by Callum Maycock, this is where the game changed. MK hit the post, took countless shots outside the box but could not get any on target. 90 minutes on the clock and it looked like we would have a 1-0 win twice in a row until James Ball superbly tackled their striker, who then plays Hippolyte who feeds the ball into Pigott who puts it across goal looking for Kelly who ‘dummies’ it to Maycock who smashes the ball into the net to seal the game. Unreal scenes. Along came a third with Kelly and Maycock working well together to eventually score his second to win the game 3-0. Unfortunately MK, possession doesn’t always win you games!

Full time and it was jubilation, passion and pure joy for Wimbledon. They had played them off the park. Final thoughts from me, I thought the fans were exceptional today, played our part as the 12th man and we are proud to be known as the one and only Wimbledon. 🟡🔵

FT: WIMBLEDON 3-0 FRANCHISE
MOTM: Myles Hippolyte 🥇
Special mention to Goodman, incredible today and that save one on one in added time was crucial.
