Where has it all gone wrong?

Over the Easter weekend, Wimbledon only managed to gain 1 point out of a possible 6 by drawing 0-0 at home to Chesterfield and a disappointing 1-0 defeat away to Gillingham. However the Dons could have picked themselves back up on Saturday where they face promotion chasing Port Vale in which could be the last home game of the season.

A few changes from the Gillingham game saw Sasu and Foyo dropped which brought Bugiel and Hutchinson into the side, aswell as Marcus Browne and Myles Hippolyte returning to the bench after their injury setbacks.

The first half consisted of no chances being created but instead the ball being in the air half the time. Both teams really cancelling eachother out with two very good defensive displays but very little attacking threat. The best chance of the half came to Sam Hutchinson who saw his half volley be saved well by Ben Amos in the port Vale net.

The second half saw the game open up a lot more. And only one team wanted it more. That was Port Vale. 55 minutes on the clock and Port vale had a freekick on the left side of the box which saw Connor Hall see his header strike the bar which Jayden Stockley tapped home. After around 5 minutes of celebrations the Port vale players hadn’t seen the linesman had put his flag up. It remained 0-0 but that was a warning sign for Wimbledon. Clearly Wimbledon were not aware of the warning sign as another freekick in which looked to be in an identical spot to the one 10 minutes ago, was swung in and an unmarked Stockley was the there to head home. 0-1. 2 minutes later Wimbledon switch off at the back and a through ball was played by Byers which split the Dons defense in half and which saw Headley steam towards goal who tucks it away in the bottom right hand corner. 0-2.

Wimbledon didn’t look like scoring for the rest of the game.

Full time: AFC Wimbledon 0-2 Port Vale

Running out of words to describe on what has been a really poor last 2 months of the season. How we are still in playoffs is beyond me and we may not even be in them come 5pm next Saturday. Such a shame to see such a promising season dismantle like this right in front of our eyes.
