Wimbledons poor away form continues…
After the demolition job on Carlisle last Saturday, Johnnie Jackson’s men are heading up north to Nottingham to play promotion contenders Notts County. Last time Wimbledon traveled up to Meadow lane, they came out as 2-0 winners thanks to an own goal and a header from Kofi Balmer.
This time, it was deemed that it was going to be a very tough and tight game, to which it was. The first half delivered many chances for Wimbledon whose pressing had payed off. Chances were given to the likes of Matty Steven’s who tries to find the bottom left corner but is well saved from former dons keeper Alex Bass. Omar Bugiel would have felt he should have scored when a crossed ball fell to his head, unmarked but couldn’t find the back of the net as the ball drifted past the right side of the post.
After a plethora of chances for the Dons in the first half, who had kept County very quiet. The second half felt completely different. County dominated the ball for the rest of the game and had started to attack Wimbledons goal a lot more than what they did in the first half. Chances fell to David Mcgoldrick who put wide an open goal. Their second chance came from a superb cross to find Jatta who most likely should have scored but it was a good block from Ryan Johnson to prevent a goal. However in the 67th minute a corner is flown in, to which it reaches Matty Platts foot and trickles its way into the bottom right corner. It seemed to have Maybe taken a deflection on its way in but nonetheless the Dons would have felt frustrated in the manner of which they conceded that goal.
Falling into the last 15 minutes, substitutes of Joe Pigott, Josh Kelly, James Furlong and Hus Biler emerge the pitch, With the biggest chance of the game for the Dons fell to Josh Kelly’s feet after a wayward back pass from the Notts county defender. However Kelly couldn’t find the back of net after playing it straight to Bass.
Full Time: Notts County 1-0 Wimbledon
A good first half, a poor second half. The dons have to be more clinical in the chances they are given in order to get anything out of games. Away form needs to improve drastically if they are going to be contenders for promotion. Onto Tuesdays game against Morecambe.
