Dons end 2024 on a high!

After the controversy of the Boxing Day match against Swindon, the Dons look to secure 3 points against out of form side, Gillingham. A win would take the Dons into 2nd place….  Changes included Omar Bugiel miss out through injury which saw Romaine Sawyers gain his first wombles start. As well as Jake Reeves returning to the side after a lengthy period of being out of action. As for the first half, let’s just say it wasn’t a great advert for the Sky cameras as both sides failed to really test each others defense with the ball mostly being up in the air for 45 minutes. The only chance of the half came to Matty Stevens whose header was well saved by Gills keeper Glenn Morris.  The second half saw the Dons break the deadlock after James Tilleys corner found the ‘shoulder’ of Matty Stevens as he guided the ball into the bottom right of the goal. Wimbledon seemed to sit back for the rest of the game as they failed to register a shot at goal ever since. But that was no worry f...

Wombles consistently inconsistent

Wimbledon look to move into the automatics over the Christmas period as a win over Chesterfield would do just that. Last weekend the Dons put out a statement win against high flying Doncaster which saw Wimbledon leapfrog Doncaster into 4th position. As the games pile up around Christmas time, it’s important that the Dons carry on their league form and maintain a playoff position. Before this game Wimbledon sat 4th, whilst newly promoted Chesterfield sat 6th. A win for Chesterfield would move them into 5th place and Wimbledon into 6th… Just the one change from the Doncaster game saw Joe Pigott replace suspended Omar Bugiel in the attacking diamond of Josh Kelly and Matty Stevens. Joe Pigott hasn’t quite replicated his previous spell with the Dons as he has only started 5 league games this season. Only coming off the bench in the rest. The first half kicks off and Chesterfield make an incredibly fast start as Markanday does well on the right hand side after a loose touch from James ...

Wimbledon Leapfrog Doncaster into 4th place!

After an emphatic win over Harrogate town last Saturday, the Dons hope to make it 4 unbeaten in the league if they were to win against a high flying Doncaster. They won’t be any pushover. Doncaster come into this game with impressive away form with them going 6 unbeaten in the league so Johnnie Jackson’s men will have to dig deep if they were to come away with the 3 points. The starting lineup remained the same team that faced Harrogate last Saturday other than one change that saw new signing and experienced championship player Sam Hutchinson into the side, replacing Riley Harbottle in midfield.  The game started with very openly with Doncaster having the better of the chances. First to strike was Luke Molyneux who beat Ogundere to the ball over the top and only had to chip Goodman in goal but couldn’t get the right connection and ball ended up for a goal kick. About 5 minutes later, Doncaster were in again, this time it was Kyle Hurst in on goal after a quick counter attack ...

Newport equalize with the last kick of the game!

After a frustrating 1-2 loss to non league side Dagenham & Redbridge which sees the Dons out of the Fa cup, Wimbledon hope to use this loss as motivation to get back to winning ways on home soil.  Newport County were welcomed to Plough lane on Tuesday as they look to get their first win in the league since late October. Wimbledon haven’t won in 5 at home and look to move up higher into those playoff places. If the Dons were to win this one, it would see them up to 5th place… Due to many injuries, Johnnie Jackson made a majority of changes which included the likes of Josh Kelly making his first league start since the last day of the season back in April. John Joe O’toole came into the side with his first league game since his sending off against Tranmere last season, Ogundere also replaced an injured James Ball. The Dons made a bright start with Tilley and Josh Kelly causing havoc down the left hand side making various chances for Wimbledon. The first goal came when a free...
