Dons earn a comfortable win against a promotion favorite

Wimbledon still unbeaten in 2025 and long may that continue as they comfortably beat Crewe last night, 3 goals to nil. Two changes saw James Furlong replaced for the returning James Tilley who missed out against Accrington due to his newborn. Also to be replaced was Josh Kelly who wasn’t in the squad at all last night as Marcus Browne took his place.

The game started off slow and pretty even with not any clear cut chances. Crewe looked well organized and had an obvious plan to frustrate the dons from getting anywhere near their goal. And to be fair they had done a pretty good job at it until the 40 minute mark where a ball was put across for Bugiel who was dragged down by Jamie Knight-Lebel who ironically scored against the Dons last time out. A penalty and a red card was given to the Bristol City loanee. There has been many speculations on whether that was a red card or not. But Wimbledon certainly won’t complain. Matty Steven’s steps up, and of course he scores.

Not long after, the ball finds Josh Neufville on the right wing who does what he does best and beats his man with his electric pace to find Bugiel where he lays a bouncing ball off for captain Jake Reeves, who slots it away superbly to make it 2-0 to Dons just before half time.

The second gets underway and it’s not long until Wimbledon find a third as Alastair Smith brings the ball down to his feet where he finds a sprinting Matty Steven’s who plays it into the top right hand corner. 3-0, game over. Crewe barely threatened as they registered 0 shots on goal and Wimbledon look to just see out the game.

Full Time: AFC Wimbledon 3-0 Crewe Alexandra

A very positive performance from the Wombles. A comfortable win against a fellow promotion chasing side is great for confidence. Marcus Browne technically was fantastic and Osman Foyo showed good signs during his short cameo. Onto Salford on Saturday for the early kickoff.

MOTM: Jake Reeves 🥇
