22/23 Wimbledon Vibes
After a crucial away win against Carlisle last weekend, it was important to back that game up with a win the following weekend. This week the Dons faced 17th place Barrow who really had nothing and still have nothing to play for.
The Dons make 2 changes with James Tilley back in favour over James Furlong and Marcus Browne in for Omar Bugiel who is out representing Lebanon. The first half was Wimbledon dominating the ball but ultimately didn’t do enough to get near the Barrow net with Steven’s coming the closest with a tap in just passing the tip of his boot.
The second half however had all the action a neutral would want. The Dons open the scoring through Marcus Browne as he superbly finished into the far post to put the Wimbledon 1-0 up. As the 85th minute rolled by, Josh Neufville does excellently to beat his man and cross the ball into Matty Steven’s who ends his 7 game goal drought to put the Dons 2-0. If only the full time whistle has blown there…
In the 88th minute Wimbledon have a corner which Furlong proceeds to take but fails to get past the first man which allows Barrow to break on the counter attack with practically no one back. Dean Campbell fires Barrow back into the game with 7 minutes left on the clock. 90+6 minutes and surely the Dons have this wrapped up. A lumped ball up top allows the Barrow Striker to hold up the ball and find an unmarked Mahoney on the edge of the box to place the ball into the bottom corner. 2-2.
Full Time: AFC Wimbledon 2-2 Barrow AFC
Deja vu of the Wimbledon we saw 2 seasons ago. Game management is so poor. But the players have to take responsibility here. Furlong not beating the first man at a corner as a professional footballer is simply embarrassing and killed all momentum we had. But Johnnie Jackson also needs to take responsibility, wrong subs and poor game management. Big game at Walsall and hopefully we can get a result there.
MOTM: Josh Neufville 🥇
